Dr. Timothy Day

Dr. Timothy Day is the Senior Vice President and General Manager of Leonardo DRS’ Daylight Solutions, a leader in Quantum Cascade Laser (QCL) molecular detection and imaging systems. Under his leadership, the company pioneered the commercialization of QCLs through its patented ECqcL™ technology, providing innovative mid-infrared laser solutions for markets such as industrial process control, medical diagnostics, and defense. With over 25 years of experience in the photonics industry, Dr. Day previously co-founded New Focus, where he helped raise over $500M and contributed to its $338M acquisition. He later co-founded Daylight Solutions, acquired by DRS for $150M in 2017. Dr. Day holds a BS and MS in Physics from San Diego State University and a PhD in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University.
