John Jay Gargus

Dr. Gargus is the Founding Scientist and Chief Scientific Officer of NeuroQure, a biotechnology company developing novel calcium signaling diagnostics for autism. He is also the Founding Director of the UCI Center for Autism Research and Translation (CART), leading a team of 60 faculty in drug discovery for autism. He earned his MD-PhD in Human Genetics from Yale, and is a board-certified medical geneticist. Throughout his career, Dr. Gargus has made significant contributions to molecular genetics and neurodevelopmental disorders. He has received funding from the NIH, Autism Speaks, and the Doris Duke Foundation, and holds 4 patents on genetic disease diagnostics. He has led two industry-sponsored clinical trials pivotal in FDA approval and has received major awards for his research in autism and migraine channelopathies. Currently a Professor at UC Irvine School of Medicine, Dr. Gargus focuses on inborn errors of metabolism and membrane function in neurodevelopmental disorders. He has been instrumental in securing $28 million in support for CART and serves on various scientific advisory boards. He is married to Dr. Ellen Dellis, and has two sons and a grandson.
