Kenneth F. Buechler, PhD

Kenneth F. Buechler has a PhD in Biochemistry and is the co-founder of Biosite Incorporated, known for pioneering rapid point-of-care medical diagnostics. As President and Chief Scientific Officer, he co-invented technologies like the Triage® Drugs of Abuse Panel and the Triage® Meter Plus platform. Under his leadership, Biosite commercialized the first immunoassay to measure B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP), revolutionizing congestive heart failure diagnosis. Before Biosite, Dr. Buechler was a senior research scientist at Hybritech, Inc., contributing to the development of cardiac biomarker assays and the first rapid visual pregnancy test, ICON® hCG. He is currently Chairman of Quidel Corporation and serves on various boards, including the Rady Children’s Institute for Genomic Medicine and the UC San Diego Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center Directors’ Council.
